Sunderland Empire dreams of a White Christmas!
Sunderland Empire have a festive treat in store this Christmas as the phenomenal Irving Berlin’s White Christmas makes its North East debut at The Sunderland Empire from 19 November 2010 to 1 January 2011.
In a change of our Christmas programming, this spectacular stage musical based on the classic 1954 movie White Christmas arrives at the Sunderland Empire this winter season after a smash hit sell out run last year in Manchester.
White Christmas promises to make your days merry and bright this Christmas as it brings a touch of sparkle and dazzle - an all round theatrical experience for the whole family.
Andrew Rawlinson, General Manager of the Sunderland Empire states “Hosting the delightful musical White Christmas this year, was just too good an opportunity to miss. This charismatic, multi-million pound production appearing in the West End of the North East, confirms the Sunderland Empire as a premiere venue, delivering top class product for the region."
Brimming with classic Irving Berlin hits like Blue Skies, How Deep is the Ocean, Happy Holiday, Sisters and of course the unforgettable title song White Christmas, it tells the story of two buddies putting on a show in a magical Vermont inn, and finding their perfect mates in the process.
The role of Bob Wallace will be played by the wonderful Tom Chambers. Tom was the winner of 2008’s Strictly Come Dancing wowing the audience and judges alike with his effervescent dancing and charisma. He starred in Holby City as Sam Strachan and more recently had the role of Max Tyler in BBC 1’s Waterloo Road. International dance star of stage and screen Adam Cooper (Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, Billy Elliot The Movie, On Your Toes, Guys and Dolls in London’s West End and principal at the Royal Ballet) will star as Phil Davis the other half of the song and dance duo.
White Christmas was first brought to the stage in 2006 by the producers of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, appearing at the Plymouth Theatre Royal and The Mayflower Theatre Southampton. In 2007 it broke box office records at the Edinburgh Playhouse and Wales Millennium Centre. It played to sell out houses at the Marquis Theatre on Broadway (outselling Wicked).
With an ensemble of over thirty and a dynamic 17 piece orchestra, this dazzling musical is full of dancing, laughter and some of the greatest songs ever written. White Christmas is the musical you have been dreaming of – be a part of this fabulous and unique experience at the Sunderland Empire from Friday 19 November 2010 to Sunday 1 January 2011.
