Hundreds of hopefuls will be lining the streets of the Sunderland Empire on Sunday 16th May to audition for this years Sunderland Empire Stage Experience production of Oliver!
As the auditions fast approach, words of support have been sent direct to the hopefuls from Rowan Atkinson, who recently played the role of Fagin in the West End production of Oliver!
“I found playing the role of Fagin in the West End production of Oliver! last year one of the most moving and satisfying experiences of my professional life and so I could not be more keen to offer my support to this production by Sunderland Empire Stage Experience”.
“Even the process of auditioning for a show like this can teach a child the critical life skills of focus and self-discipline as well as, of course, exposing him or her to the utter thrill of live performance. I wish the very best of luck to all those auditioning for roles, in what I believe personally to be the greatest British musical ever written”.
Oliver! promises to be a fantastic experience for youngsters across the region. Those successful at the audition stage will take part in the Sunderland Empire Stage Experience from Monday 26th July to Saturday 7th August. At the end of the training they will perform in this years Stage Experience show - Oliver! which will run from Thursday 5th to Saturday 7th August (tickets on sale now).
Oliver! is one of the most beloved British musicals of all time, bringing to life Charles Dickens’ wonderful characters with its timeless story of a young orphan boy’s journey from rags to riches. Featuring classic songs including, ‘Consider Yourself’, ‘You’ve Got to Pick-a-Pocket or Two’, ‘I’d Do Anything’ and the irresistible ‘Food Glorious Food’.
Sunderland Empire Stage Experience is such a positive experience and fantastic opportunity for young and aspiring actors to get an insight into the work of theatre. Sunderland Empire are delighted that their previous Stage Experience performer, Jessica Robinson got to the final 5 of Andrew Lloyd-Webbers search for the next Dorothy, on BBC 1’s Over the Rainbow series. It just shows how you can reach for the stars and fulfil your dreams with hard work and determination.
